About Us
About LM2
The Laboratory for Multiscale Mechanics (LM2) specializes in innovative research across slender structure mechanics, multi-scale mechanics, additive manufacturing, multi-stable structures, and smart materials, while fostering an inclusive environment.
LM2 brings together 5 professors of complementary expertise, specialized in slender structure mechanics (Frédérick Gosselin), multi-scale mechanics (Martin Lévesque), additive manufacturing (Daniel Therriault), modeling and simulation and smart origami/kirigami structures (David Melancon), and smart materials and structures (Sampada Bodkhe).
The Team
The LM2 team comprises around 50 permanent members, including PhD and master’s students, technicians, research associates, postdoctoral fellows, and professors from diverse backgrounds and nationalities. We also host numerous international interns from countries such as China, India, and Ireland. At LM2, we provide an inclusive and safe environment, offering learning and development opportunities for all our highly qualified personnel (HQP).
Our Values
LM2 values collaboration, respect, openness, teamwork, and continuous improvement. We believe that embracing diverse ideas and viewpoints, while fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and fully engaged, leads to more robust and innovative research outcomes.
Our Research
The research conducted at LM2 primarily focuses on metals, polymers, polymer composites, nanocomposites, and living matter. It encompasses manufacturing, service performance, fluid-structure interactions, and mechanical instabilities. The highly qualified personnel (e.g., students) at LM2 are trained by conducting both fundamental high-risk, high-reward research, as well as industrially relevant research with numerous SMEs, along with local and international OEMs in the fields of aerospace and energy.
